Two kayakers in California experienced the shock of their lives when a humpback whale suddenly breached right beneath them, launching their kayak into the air before flipping it completely.
The terrifying moment was caught on video — and it’s now going viral.
Spectators on a nearby boat can be heard screaming as the massive whale, estimated to weigh over 30 tons, erupted from the ocean just feet away, sending both kayakers plunging into the water.
Miraculously, both individuals survived with only minor injuries and were quickly rescued by nearby boaters.
Experts say the whale wasn’t being aggressive — it likely didn’t even see the kayak before surfacing to feed.
“They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” one marine biologist explained.
The video has sparked renewed calls for safe distance guidelines when kayaking or paddleboarding near feeding whales.
