In a scene that sounds straight out of a Hollywood movie, two inmates in an Oklahoma jail managed to escape from the 12th floor of the facility using nothing but a rope made of tied bedsheets. Authorities have confirmed that one of the escapees — a m*rder suspect — remains on the run, triggering a massive manhunt across the region.

According to jail officials, the escape took place during the early morning hours at the Oklahoma County Detention Center. Surveillance cameras captured what appeared to be a makeshift rope dangling from a high-rise cell window. When officers conducted morning roll call, they discovered that two prisoners were missing and immediately launched a lockdown of the facility.

Investigators believe the inmates tied multiple bed sheets together, creating a rope long enough to descend the height of the 12-story building. It’s still unclear how they managed to bypass the cell’s locking mechanisms and security checks without being detected.

One of the inmates was quickly captured a few miles away after a witness spotted him near a convenience store and alerted police. However, the second escapee — identified as a suspect awaiting trial for m*rder — remains at large.

“We’re doing everything possible to locate this individual,” said Sheriff Tom McMillan. “He’s considered dangerous, and we’re urging the public not to approach him but to contact law enforcement immediately if spotted.”

Residents in nearby neighborhoods have been advised to stay alert and report any unusual activity. Several schools in the area briefly went into precautionary lockdowns as authorities searched the perimeter with K9 units, helicopters, and drones.

This isn’t the first time the jail has faced scrutiny. The Oklahoma County Detention Center has been under investigation for years due to safety concerns, staffing shortages, and repeated security breaches. In fact, local reports indicate this is the third escape attempt in the last two years.

“This incident highlights a serious failure in oversight,” said a county commissioner. “We need answers about how a high-risk inmate managed to rappel down a 12th floor window using bed sheets. That should be impossible.”

Family members of the inmates were reportedly questioned, but officials have not confirmed whether they played any role in aiding the escape. The FBI and U.S. Marshals have joined the search for the fugitive, offering a reward for information leading to his capture.

Meanwhile, the inmate who was recaptured is now being held in solitary confinement pending further investigation. He reportedly told authorities that the plan had been in motion for weeks and that the pair “just wanted freedom, no matter the risk.”

As of now, the manhunt continues — and the city remains on edge.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers immediately.

This daring escape has once again exposed the cracks in the prison system — and left the community questioning how something this dramatic could happen right under the watch of jail security.
