A West Sacramento mother says she’s had enough after police were called multiple times by neighbors — not for her, but for her kids simply playing outside. The repeated calls have left her frustrated, embarrassed, and worried about how the situation is affecting her children’s sense of safety.

According to the mom, identified as Jasmine, her two sons — ages 9 and 12 — often play basketball, ride bikes, and hang out near their home after school. But what should be normal childhood fun has turned into a cycle of police visits. “They’re just being kids,” she said. “They’re not hurting anyone, not damaging property, just outside being loud like any kids would be.”

Neighbors, however, have reportedly complained about “noise” and “rowdy behavior.” On several occasions, police arrived to investigate — only to find nothing unlawful happening. “It’s heartbreaking,” Jasmine added. “Every time they see flashing lights, my kids freeze. They shouldn’t have to feel scared for just being outside.”

Video footage from one of the incidents shows officers talking to the children while they stand next to a parked car. The situation appears calm, but the image of young kids surrounded by police has sparked outrage online after Jasmine shared it on social media.

Community reactions have been mixed. Many residents expressed sympathy for the family, saying the repeated calls are excessive and unnecessary. Others claim the neighborhood has strict noise ordinances and that police were “just responding to complaints.”

Still, advocates say the case highlights a bigger issue — over-policing of ordinary behavior, especially involving young people. “Children should not grow up feeling like their every move is being watched or reported,” said one local community leader. “We need better dialogue between neighbors before resorting to calling the authorities.”

Police confirmed that officers had responded to multiple calls in the area but emphasized that in each instance, the kids were cooperative and no citations were issued. “Our officers are required to respond when complaints are made,” a department spokesperson stated. “However, we encourage neighbors to communicate and resolve minor disputes whenever possible.”

Jasmine says she’s open to conversation but feels singled out. “We’re not trying to cause problems,” she explained. “I just want my boys to feel free to be kids without someone dialing 911 every time they laugh too loud.”

The viral story has since prompted discussions about how communities handle neighbor disputes and whether too many people rely on law enforcement for non-emergencies. Social media users quickly rallied around Jasmine, with many offering messages of support and even suggesting community mediation programs.

“I shouldn’t have to tell my children to stay quiet in their own neighborhood,” Jasmine said tearfully. “They deserve to grow up without fear.”

While police continue to monitor the situation, one thing is clear — this family’s story has struck a chord nationwide, sparking a powerful reminder: sometimes the best way to handle a problem is to talk, not call. 🏡💬
