What started as a routine undercover operation in Florida turned into one of the most disturbing arrests local officers say they’ve seen in months — after a man was caught soliciting a woman while his toddler sat in the backseat of the car.
Bodycam footage released by police shows the moment the sting unfolded. Detectives had been monitoring an area known for solicitation activity when they spotted a vehicle circling a motel parking lot multiple times. After approaching a woman on the street, the driver pulled over and allegedly discussed payment in exchange for services. Officers quickly moved in — but when they looked inside the car, what they found left them speechless.
A three-year-old child was sitting in a car seat, quietly playing with a toy tablet as officers surrounded the vehicle. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” one officer can be heard saying on the footage. “You brought your kid?”
According to the police report, the man told officers he “didn’t have a babysitter” and thought the stop would “only take a few minutes.” The woman involved appeared equally shocked, reportedly telling officers she didn’t realize there was a child in the car until the police arrived.
Officers immediately removed the toddler from the scene and contacted Child Protective Services, while the driver was detained on multiple charges including solicitation and child endangerment.
In the bodycam video, the female officer who handled the child can be seen comforting the toddler, who appears calm and unaware of what’s happening. “You’re okay, sweetheart,” she says softly while leading the child to a patrol car.
The driver, meanwhile, stands by his vehicle with his head down as police read him his rights. “You could’ve left your kid with someone,” the arresting officer says in disbelief. “But you chose this? With your child in the car?”
The video spread quickly online, sparking outrage and disbelief from viewers. “This is beyond irresponsible — it’s heartbreaking,” one commenter wrote. Another said, “That poor child didn’t ask for any of this. Some people truly don’t deserve to be parents.”
Law enforcement officials released a statement after the footage went viral, urging parents to think before making reckless decisions. “We’ve seen a lot in our line of work,” one spokesperson said, “but this one shocked even our most seasoned officers. Children should never be put in danger because of an adult’s poor choices.”
The woman involved in the sting was also detained and charged with solicitation. Police confirmed that the child has since been placed in the care of relatives while authorities determine long-term custody arrangements.
Viewers online have continued to express sympathy for the little one caught in the middle of the chaos. “It’s one of those moments where you can’t decide if you’re angry or just sad,” wrote one user.
As one top comment summed it up perfectly:
“This wasn’t just a bad decision — it was a complete failure of responsibility. And the saddest part is, the only innocent person there was the child.”
