The incident occurred at kilometer 059+000 near the municipality of Huehuetoca, where a trailer traveling toward Mexico City was unable to stop in time as it approached the Jorobas intersection. According to preliminary reports, the driver attempted to brake but lost control, first crashing into a roadside embankment before colliding with several vehicles traveling ahead.
Authorities confirmed that the trailer struck at least five passenger cars and one pickup truck. The force of the impact caused the trailer to jackknife and end up positioned sideways across the highway, blocking all three north-to-south lanes.
