Walmart has announced a major recall of over 850,000 thermos-style bottles following alarming reports that certain batches may pose potential health risks. The move comes after several customers claimed they experienced eye irritation and temporary vision problems possibly linked to chemical contamination from the bottles’ inner coating.
The affected products were sold both in-store and online under several brand names, including some models similar to those of popular insulated drinkware brands. Walmart issued a public safety notice urging customers to immediately stop using the bottles and check the serial codes printed on the bottom of each product.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), early investigations suggest that a manufacturing error may have caused small amounts of chemical residue—used in the inner sealant—to leach into the liquid when exposed to heat. While the issue does not affect every unit, authorities say the recall is being done out of an “abundance of caution.”
