What was supposed to be a quick cash withdrawal turned into an unbelievable nightmare for one man โ and it all started with a malfunctioning ATM that wouldnโt stop spitting out money.
According to reports, the incident occurred when a customer, identified only as Lukas, attempted to withdraw $200 from an ATM late one evening. To his shock, the machine suddenly began ejecting hundreds of bills uncontrollably, showering the floor with cash.
Surveillance footage shows Lukas stepping back in disbelief as the bills continue to pour out, piling up at his feet. Instead of grabbing the money and leaving, Lukas did what most people would consider the right thing โ he immediately called the police and the bankโs emergency hotline to report the glitch.
โI thought it was a security test or a camera prank,โ Lukas told reporters. โI didnโt touch a single bill. I just wanted to make sure I wasnโt blamed.โ
However, what happened next stunned everyone.
When authorities arrived, they secured the area and collected the scattered cash. Lukas gave a full statement, explaining that he hadnโt taken any money. But a week later, he received a legal notice from the bank โ accusing him of โinterference with financial equipmentโ and demanding compensation for damages caused by โimproper handlingโ of the ATM.
โI couldnโt believe it,โ Lukas said. โI tried to do the right thing, and now theyโre suing me?โ
The bankโs argument, according to internal reports, was that Lukas failed to follow โcorrect emergency protocol,โ which supposedly required him to immediately leave the area and contact authorities from a safe distance. Instead, they claim, his presence near the machine โcompromised the chain of evidenceโ and potentially triggered additional malfunction cycles.
The lawsuit quickly gained attention online, sparking outrage among social media users who called it โone of the most ridiculous cases ever.โ
โSo he gets punished for being honest? Unreal,โ one commenter wrote.
โThatโs exactly why people donโt trust big banks anymore,โ another added.
Legal experts, however, say the situation might not be as straightforward.
โIn cases like this, banks are highly protective of their equipment and internal processes,โ one lawyer explained. โEven if a customer acts in good faith, they can still be caught up in bureaucratic blame games.โ
After public backlash grew, the bank eventually dropped its legal action โ but refused to issue a public apology. Lukas, meanwhile, says heโs still shaken by the experience and now prefers to do his banking inside the branch rather than at machines.
โI lost trust,โ he admitted. โIt taught me that even doing the right thing can come with a price.โ
The viral footage has since turned into a symbol of how corporate systems can sometimes punish honesty instead of rewarding it โ and a reminder to always document everything, even when your intentions are good.
Because in this case, one manโs good deed almost cost him everything. ๐ธ
