A bizarre incident at a local restaurant has gone viral after a woman refused to pay her bill — claiming that “Facebook” would be covering the cost. The jaw-dropping scene, caught on a police bodycam, left officers, staff, and customers in disbelief.
It all began when a woman, dressed casually in a green floral romper, sat down for what appeared to be a perfectly normal dinner. According to restaurant staff, she ordered a full meal — appetizer, entrée, dessert, and multiple drinks — chatting cheerfully with the waitress the entire time. But when it came time to pay, things took an unexpected turn.
“She looked straight at me and said, ‘Oh, don’t worry, Facebook’s got this,’” the server recalled. “I thought she was joking. But then she started arguing that she didn’t have to pay because she’s an influencer.”
Confused and growing uneasy, the staff called the manager, who tried to reason with her. The woman allegedly doubled down, explaining that she had “posted about the meal” and that the restaurant would “get more exposure” in exchange for the free food. When the manager declined, the situation escalated quickly.
“She started raising her voice, saying the restaurant was breaking an agreement,” one witness said. “She kept saying she had thousands of followers and that she’d already tagged the place, so they were ‘technically paid.’ It was surreal.”
After several failed attempts to calm her down, the manager was forced to call local police. Bodycam footage shows an officer arriving and asking what happened. The woman, unfazed, points toward the restaurant’s security camera and says, “Go check my Facebook — it’s already there. They agreed when they liked my post.”
The officer, trying to contain his laughter, explains that Facebook isn’t a financial institution and can’t “cover” restaurant tabs. Still, the woman insists the meal was part of an “online collaboration.” When asked for proof, she waves her phone — which, as it turns out, doesn’t show any message from the restaurant at all.
Eventually, the officers issue her a citation for defrauding an establishment, and she’s escorted out. But the story didn’t end there. The video of the incident, uploaded by a local police transparency page, has exploded across social media, gathering millions of views and thousands of comments.
“Imagine trying to pay for dinner with likes,” one user joked. Another wrote, “This is what happens when social media goes straight to people’s heads.”
Experts say the event highlights a growing trend of people misunderstanding “influencer marketing” and expecting free goods without formal agreements. “Exposure isn’t currency,” said PR consultant Alicia Morgan. “If there’s no contract, there’s no deal.”
As for the restaurant, they’ve handled the viral fame with grace. “We just want people to understand that our servers work hard,” the owner posted online. “If you enjoyed your meal — please just pay for it.”
The woman has since deleted her social media profiles, but the internet hasn’t forgotten. One top comment summed it up best:
“She wanted Facebook to pick up the bill — and ended up getting served instead.”
