A shocking incident inside a local ice cream shop has gone viral after a customer, now dubbed “the Ice Cream Karen,” was arrested following an explosive altercation that was all caught on camera.

The chaotic moment unfolded on a busy Saturday evening at Scoops & Smiles Creamery, where families and kids were lined up for dessert. Witnesses say the confrontation began over something as trivial as a wrong ice cream flavor — but quickly spiraled into a heated and physical outburst.

According to police, the woman, identified as Linda Matthews, became enraged when an employee handed her the wrong cone. Despite the staff offering to fix the order immediately, she refused to calm down, accusing the young worker of “disrespect” and “trying to scam” her.

“She just started yelling,” said one bystander. “At first, everyone thought she was joking, but then she slammed her hand on the counter and threw her cone.”

The viral video shows Matthews pointing aggressively at the teenage cashier, shouting and stepping closer as the employee nervously apologizes. Moments later, she slaps the ice cream out of the worker’s hand — sending it splattering onto the floor. The crowd gasps, and several customers step forward to intervene.

One witness captured the entire event on their phone. “She was completely out of control,” said another customer. “It went from loud to violent so fast — over ice cream!”

Police were called immediately, and officers arrived within minutes. Bodycam footage shows Matthews still arguing with staff as officers attempt to calm her down. When asked to step outside, she reportedly refused and accused the employees of “attacking her first.”

She was arrested on the spot and charged with assault, disorderly conduct, and destruction of property. The store later confirmed that the teenage employee was not physically injured but was left shaken by the incident.

Scoops & Smiles issued a statement the following day:

“We stand by our staff, who handled the situation with incredible patience and professionalism. No one deserves to be treated this way — especially young employees just doing their jobs.”

Since the video surfaced online, it has racked up millions of views and thousands of comments. Social media users expressed outrage, with one commenter writing, “Imagine ending up in handcuffs because you couldn’t handle a wrong flavor,” while another added, “That poor employee stayed calmer than 99% of adults would.”

Others pointed out the larger issue of rising aggression toward service workers. “We’re seeing this more often — customers losing their temper over the smallest things,” said behavioral expert Dr. Emily Harris. “It’s a reminder that kindness costs nothing, but anger can cost your freedom.”

Matthews was released on bail later that evening but faces a court appearance next month. Meanwhile, the ice cream shop has become unexpectedly famous, with locals showing up to support the young employee — and jokingly asking for “the Karen Special.”

In the words of one witness:

“It’s amazing how fast things can melt down — literally and figuratively — when people forget how to behave in public.”
