In an unbelievable scene that could have been pulled straight from a movie, a recently escaped inmate was caught on a home security camera attempting to hide from police — inside a backyard trash bin. The footage, now circulating widely online, shows the man in bright orange prison pants climbing into a garbage container as law enforcement closed in.

According to officials, the incident occurred just hours after the inmate, who had been serving time for burglary and assault, escaped from a correctional transport vehicle during a brief stop. Authorities believe he took advantage of a momentary distraction to flee into a nearby residential neighborhood.

The video shows the escapee jumping over a fence and frantically scanning the area before spotting a large trash bin near the side of a house. In a desperate attempt to evade capture, he lifts the lid, climbs inside, and pulls it shut behind him — unaware that the entire escape attempt is being recorded by the homeowner’s security camera.

Moments later, flashing police lights can be seen reflecting off nearby walls as officers begin sweeping the area. Within minutes, one officer approaches the very yard where the inmate is hiding. The footage captures the tense moment an officer lifts the lid of the bin — and immediately pulls the man out at gunpoint.

“He really thought he could hide in the trash,” one officer said afterward, shaking his head. “We could hear him moving around inside. It didn’t take long to find him.”

Neighbors who witnessed the arrest described the scene as both intense and surreal. “It was like something from a comedy,” one resident said. “You could see his orange pants sticking out, plain as day. Everyone in the neighborhood was watching from their windows.”

Police confirmed that the inmate was taken back into custody without incident and will now face additional charges, including escape from custody and resisting arrest. “He’s going to be spending a lot more time behind bars after this stunt,” a department spokesperson stated.

The video has since exploded across social media, drawing millions of views and sparking a mix of shock and amusement. Some viewers commented on the absurdity of the situation — one writing, “How did he think this was going to end?” — while others praised police for their swift and controlled response.

Law enforcement officials say the case serves as a reminder that most escapes are short-lived. “Once someone runs, it’s only a matter of time before we find them,” said one officer. “We have eyes everywhere — including your backyard cameras.”

The homeowner, who reviewed the footage after the arrest, later joked, “That’s one trash day I’ll never forget.”

Though the story may sound humorous, authorities emphasize that prison escapes can be dangerous — for both officers and civilians. Fortunately, in this case, the only thing that ended up in the trash was the fugitive’s plan.
