Authorities have released shocking body cam footage showing the rescue of a 3-year-old child who weighed only 16 pounds from a roach-infested apartment. The disturbing case has left the community in disbelief and raised urgent questions about child neglect and safety.

According to police, officers were dispatched to conduct a welfare check after neighbors reported concerns. Upon entering the apartment, they were met with an overwhelming stench, roaches crawling across the floors and walls, and conditions described as “unlivable.”

Inside, they discovered the toddler, malnourished and severely underweight—weighing what an average 3-month-old baby might weigh. The child was immediately transported to a local hospital, where doctors confirmed the severity of neglect.

Officials called the case one of the worst instances of child endangerment they had ever seen. The child’s mother was arrested and now faces multiple charges, including felony child neglect and endangerment.

Child protective services has confirmed that the child is now in protective custody, receiving medical care and nutrition. Doctors say recovery will be a long process, but there is hope the child can eventually regain strength and develop normally.

Community members expressed outrage, with many asking how such conditions could go unnoticed for so long. Advocates are now calling for stronger oversight and quicker intervention in suspected neglect cases.

This heartbreaking case serves as a reminder that children are the most vulnerable members of society—and protecting them must always be a top priority.
