A terrifying scene unfolded over Fourth of July weekend in Coney Island, Brooklyn, when a man allegedly tried to snatch a 6-year-old boy right off the sidewalk, according to the NYPD.
The incident occurred in broad daylight as families were celebrating the holiday. Witnesses say the man suddenly lunged at the child, grabbing him and throwing him to the ground. Thankfully, the boy’s parents acted quickly, tackling the suspect and pinning him down until police arrived.
The man, who authorities describe as “emotionally disturbed,” has been arrested and charged with attempted kidnapping and assault. NYPD sources confirmed the boy did not suffer serious injuries.
“This could’ve ended much worse if not for the quick reaction of the parents,” one witness said. “It was terrifying.”
The case is now under investigation, and officials are evaluating the suspect’s mental health history. Meanwhile, the community is shaken but relieved the child is safe — and hailing the parents as heroes.
