Three vehicles on fire in Tranent; police probe ‘wilful’ incident

A FIRE which saw three vehicles burst into flames in Tranent on Friday evening may have been started deliberately, police believe.

Firefighters were called out at 11.44pm to reports of a car alight on Caponhall Road.

The flames spread to a car and van which were parked in adjoining spaces.  

One fire engine was dispatched and police were then called to the scene at 12.05am.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, leaving the scene at 12.58am on Saturday; no one was injured.

Police enquiries are ongoing and the fire is being treated as “wilful”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.05am on Saturday, July 19, officers were called to a report of a car on fire on Caponhall Road, Tranent.

“The fire had spread to two other cars and was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. There were no injuries.

“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
